On January 14, Adult Forum will begin a 5-session class on Paul’s letter to the Romans. As we learned in our class on “Luther and the Reformation,” Romans contributed fundamentally to Luther’s theology. While 5 sessions are not nearly enough to cover the entirety of the work (the class that Luther himself taught on Romans included 90 sessions!), we will focus on some of the most important points. The class will be held on January 14 and 21. There will be no class on January 28 so that we can participate in the Annual Meeting. We will then meet on February 4, 11 and 18. For those interested in the Romans class, you are encouraged to prepare by reading Romans.

For the 3 weeks preceding Easter (beginning March 11) and the 3 weeks following Easter we will try using a new resource. Christian Piatt published the first of what will be 3 devotional books, one for each year of our 3-year lectionary cycle. The book uses and interprets the texts for each week’s lessons and gospel throughout the church year. For those interested in the class beginning March 11, you are encouraged to order a copy of the Piatt’s book, entitled Surviving the Bible – A Devotional for the Church Year 2018, and start reading the weekly studies. It is available on line. If you would like us to order one for you, please contact the office. When we start our session on March 11, we will discuss Piatt’s summary of the lectionary lessons for that week, and we will do the same over the next 7 weeks, excluding Easter – March 11, 18, 25, and April 8, 15 and 22.
