Our fall Adult Forum series will be a ten-session study of the Gospel According to John, led by David Moore. John’s Gospel is quite different from the three Synoptic Gospels (Matthew, Mark and Luke) in its stories, its sequence and its focus on the divinity of Jesus Christ. Our congregation is one of many that have named themselves after this Gospel. We might say that the Gospel according to John defines Jesus as it defines our congregation. The class will be held following the Sunday worship service in the John Roehl Media Room (formerly known as the Library) at the north end of Fellowship Hall. Classes usually begin about 10 minutes after worship, and run until 11:30.

The first class will be held on September 15. A tentative calendar follows:

  • Sept. 15 – The Word Became Flesh: The Introduction to the Gospel (1:1-18)
  • Sept. 22 – Jesus and John the Baptist: Who is Jesus and Who is John? (1:6-8, 19-42; 3:22-30)
  • Sept. 29 – The Signs: The Wedding at Cana (2:1-11), The Healing of the Official’s Son (4:46-54), The Healing at the Pool (5:1-15)
  • Oct. 6 – NO CLASS
  • Oct. 13 – NO CLASS (Congregational gathering)
  • Oct. 20 – The Signs: Feeding the Five Thousand (6:1-14); Walking on Water (6:16-24); Restoring Sight to the Blind (9:1-41); Raising Lazarus (11: 1-53)
  • Oct. 27 – Bread, Water, Fruit, Blood and Fish (4:1-15, 31-37; 6:1-59; 7:37-39; 12:24; 13:1-30; 15:1-11; 19:31-37; 21: 1-14)
  • Nov. 3 – Light and Darkness (1:1-1-9; 8:12-20; 9:1-41; 12:44-46)
  • Nov. 10 – NO CLASS
  • Nov. 17 – The Farewell Discourse – Jesus’ Last Sermon (13:31 – 17:26)
  • Nov. 24 – “I am” – The Truth and Freedom
