MORE THAN 25 YEARS AGO, the Souper Bowl of Caring began with a simple prayer from a single youth group: “Lord, even as we enjoy the Super Bowl football game, help us be mindful of those without a bowl of soup to eat.” Since that day, more than $125 million has been raised for local charities across the country through Souper Bowl of Caring.

Thank you to everyone who has brought soup and made cash donations already. One last chance to make a contribution today! Cash donations and non-perishable food items are needed. Food donations may be placed in the large barrel in the Narthex. Cash and checks may be placed in a pew envelope marked “Souper Bowl” and put into the regular collection. Please write “Souper Bowl” in the memo line and make checks out to “St John Lutheran Church” to be eligible for matching grant money. We will be asking for a grant from the St. John Foundation. Every dollar donated goes to ECHO, our 2017 Souper Bowl of Caring charity of choice.
