•  What is trauma and how do we approach it as Christians?
  •  What are things we can do to engage in healing hospitality?
  •  How do we respond as Christians to the current immigration debate in our nation?
  •  How can the church respond to refugees and the most vulnerable in our communities?

Pastor John Garland has been doing refugee hospitality for years. He and his family lived on the southern border of Texas, where he was the pastor of Iglesia Menonita Nuevas for eight years. Presently, he is the pastor of San Antonio Mennonite Church, whose members operate La Casa de Maria y Marta, a hospitality house for stranded asylum-seekers. The church is also in partnership with Interfaith Welcome Coalition of San Antonio. John is the founding director of Semillas, an organization dedicated to healing hospitality for asylum-seeking refugees.

You are cordially invited to hear Pastor John discuss ways to respond to trauma, asylum-seekers, and the most vulnerable in our communities. He will give a presentation on Saturday, October 12, 2019 at St John Lutheran Church beginning with a session from 10:00 am – noon and then continuing after lunch with the rest of the presentation from 1:30-3:30 pm. Lunch will be provided for attendees. This event is open to the public. We hope that you will be able to join us for this important discussion.
