The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, awarded on Oct. 5, 2015, was split two ways, recognizing three scientists for their cutting-edge work on parasitic diseases. One award went to Tu Youyou, who discovered Artemisinin, the drug at the center of the Artemisinin-based combination therapies (ACTs) that are used to fight malaria around the world.
